Purpose: Patients and families often face aging, serious illness, and the end of life without a clear understanding of what lies ahead. This webinar introduces the role of the End-of-Life Doula, including scope of practice, services, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team across the continuum of care. Participants will leave with a clear understanding of the role and scope of end-of-life doulas, how the role differs from and complements clinical and custodial care, and when to make a referral.

Objectives:

1. Define the role and scope of practice of an end-of-life doula, and distinguish it from clinical, custodial, and home-health-aide roles
2. Describe how doula support complements hospice and palliative care across aging, serious illness, and end of life, without duplicating the clinical team
3. Determine when to refer a patient or family to an end-of-life doula, and describe how doula involvement strengthens family preparedness and eases the experience of dying

Target Audience: Primary care providers, nurse practitioners, palliative care specialists, pain specialists, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses with a specialty in palliative care/hospice, social workers, allied health professionals, fellows, residents, and medical students

Criteria for Successful Completion:

1. Attendance at the entire session (Dial-in/audio-only phone connections are not accepted)
2. Submission of completed evaluation form
