Purpose:The purpose of this webinar is to increase participant knowledge of how the spiritual and cultural beliefs and practices of our patients and families impact care. This knowledge will assist the participant in providing care that is holistic and culturally/spiritually sensitive, leading to the improvement of quality of life for individuals with chronic illness.

Objectives:

  1. Discuss how culture/spirituality impacts patient care
  2. State why a cultural/spiritual assessment is important
  3. List three reasons why family or nonprofessional interpreters should not be used

Target Audience: nurse practitioners, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, and registered nurses with a specialty in palliative care/hospice

Criteria for Successful Completion:

  1. Attendance at entire session
  2. Submission of completed evaluation form
  3. Successful completion of a posttest (70% passing grade)

Continuing Education Credits: 1.0

Nurses:  MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Northeast Multistate Division Education Unit, an accredited approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
