Hospice & Palliative Care

Purpose: This webinar will present a number of cases where goals of care conversations were key to the management of patients with acute stroke and intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). We will explain which factors in the cases led to the decision to step back and discuss goals of care and general recommendations for managing these difficult cases.

Objectives:

1. Explain which stroke/ICH syndromes have poor prognoses
2. Recognize the signs and symptoms of catastrophic stroke and ICH
3. Discuss strategies to communicate about the patient's injury and expected prognosis
4. Implement strategies to engage in open discussion about the patient's end-of-life wishes

Target Audience: Primary care providers, nurse practitioners, palliative care specialists, pain specialists, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses with a specialty in palliative care/hospice, social workers, allied health professionals, fellows, residents, and medical students

Criteria for Successful Completion:

1. Attendance at entire session
2. Submission of completed evaluation form

Physicians: The AAFP has reviewed MJHS 2025-2026 Interprofessional Webinar Series, and deemed it acceptable for AAFP credit. Term of approval is from 09/18/2025 to 08/31/2026. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
