Purpose: This presentation will establish a baseline understanding of how to watch for symptoms of common mental health diagnoses. The presentation seeks to normalize the symptoms of mental illness and reinforce tools to diagnose when necessary and appropriate. In addition to assessment and treatment skills for common mental health issues, pain and its role and impact on mental health will be examined.
Objectives:
- Identify comorbid psychological and psychiatric symptoms in patients and families with chronic and terminal illness
- Determine when to intervene when symptoms are present and what might discourage intervention
- Identify appropriate interventions when symptoms are present and treatment is appropriate
Target Audience: social workers and healthcare coaches
Criteria for Successful Completion:
- Attendance at entire session
- Submission of completed evaluation form
- Successful completion of a posttest (80% passing grade)
