Purpose: The goal of this webinar is to share current policy and health trends affecting aging veterans and their families and the complexities of securing supportive services. The webinar focuses on recent changes to Veterans Affairs (VA) policy for vulnerable veteran populations, survivor benefits, suicide ideation, and new research correlating veterans living with traumatic brain injury (TBI) or Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and dementia that redefines how clinicians can better support veterans as they age.

Objectives:

1. Recognize the complexities of healthcare for veterans and their families
2. Implement a plan of care using at least three services available that support the health and wellness of veteran patients and their families
3. Describe three possible opportunities that can minimize financial strain associated with under-reimbursed and high-cost services for veterans and their families

Target Audience: Primary care providers, nurse practitioners, palliative care specialists, pain specialists, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses with a specialty in palliative care/hospice, social workers, allied health professionals, fellows, residents, and medical students

Criteria for Successful Completion:

1. Attendance at the entire session (Dial-in/audio-only phone connections are not accepted)
2. Submission of completed evaluation form

Physicians: The AAFP has reviewed MJHS 2026-2027 Interprofessional Webinar Series, and deemed it acceptable for AAFP credit. Term of approval is from 09/10/2026 to 08/31/2027. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This session Improving Outcomes for Veterans and Families Through Earlier Diagnoses, Greater Insight, and Stronger Support is approved for 1.0 online AAFP Elective credits.
