CYSTIC FIBROSIS: MENTAL HEALTH AND PALLIATIVE CARE THROUGH THE LIFESPAN

Purpose: Current Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Foundation guidelines recommend mental health and palliative care screening at routine clinical visits for individuals with CF. New treatments that correct the underlying cause of CF, highly effective Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR) modulator therapies, are now available for most people living with CF. How is the landscape of mental health and palliative care in CF changing as a result? The goal of this webinar is to describe best practices for monitoring and managing the mental health of people with CF throughout the lifespan, as an essential component of palliative care delivery.

Objectives:  

  1. Identify new challenges in mental health and palliative care for people with CF in the era of highly effective CFTR modulator therapies
  2. Assess the differential diagnosis of psychological distress in people with CF throughout the lifespan
  3. Describe the management of common mental health conditions in people with CF at key stages of development and disease progression

Target Audience: Primary care providers, nurse practitioners, palliative care specialists, pain specialists, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses with a specialty in palliative care/hospice, social workers, allied health professionals, fellows, residents, and medical students

Criteria for Successful Completion:

  1. Attendance at entire session
  2. Submission of completed evaluation form
  3. Successful completion of a posttest; 80% passing grade (mandatory to receive CE credit for social workers)

Nurses: The MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Northeast Multistate Division Education Unit, an accredited approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Social Workers: MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0242.
