Purpose: After attending this seminar, providers should develop a working understanding of treatment options for common infections in the palliative care population as well as an appreciation for when antibiotics may help and when they may cause more harm.

Objectives:

1. Evaluate evidence-based treatment recommendations for common infections in the adult palliative care population, including shortest duration and narrowest possible spectrum of coverage
2. Identify facilitators and barriers to stewardship in this population, including provider and family perceptions about the role of antibiotics
3. Develop tools to engage patients and families in goals of care conversations which include parameters for use of antibiotics at the end of life

Target Audience: Primary care providers, nurse practitioners, palliative care specialists, pain specialists, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses with a specialty in palliative care/hospice, social workers, allied health professionals, fellows, residents, and medical students

Criteria for Successful Completion:

1. Attendance at entire session
2. Submission of completed evaluation form
