Purpose: The purpose of this webinar is to provide an overview of the role of palliative radiation therapy in symptom management in patients with metastatic or incurable cancers.

Objectives:  

  1. Recognize the indications for palliative radiation therapy among patients with metastatic or incurable cancer
  2. Describe the palliative radiation treatment process, expected outcomes, and expected timeline for these outcomes
  3. Discuss the pharmacologic supportive therapies commonly utilized during and after palliative radiation treatment to mitigate treatment-related effects

Physicians: This live online webinar, Introduction to Palliative Radiation Therapy, with a beginning date of September 8, 2022, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 1.0 prescribed credit by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1.0 credit(s) toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award.
Physicians should only claim the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses: The MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by The Alabama State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Social Workers: MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0242.
