Purpose: This webinar will review key hospice metrics at the provider, county, state, and national levels. Specific attention will be focused on recent MJHS publications exploring New York’s hospice utilization and new hospice quality measures. Data applications in public policy and regulatory environments will be discussed.

Objectives:  

  1. Describe changing trends in hospice utilization, particularly in New York State
  2. Discuss several hospice metrics and patient characteristics impacting care, and how New York compares to other states
  3. Identify ways the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services may use claims, cost reports, and quality data to evaluate individual hospices, as well as the hospice field

Target Audience: Primary care providers, nurse practitioners, palliative care specialists, pain specialists, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses with a specialty in palliative care/hospice, social workers, allied health professionals, fellows, residents, and medical students

Criteria for Successful Completion:

  1. Attendance at entire session
  2. Submission of completed evaluation form
  3. Successful completion of a posttest; 80% passing grade (mandatory to receive CE credit for social workers)

Physicians: This on-demand webinar, New York State Hospice Utilization and Updates, with a beginning date of June 29, 2023, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 1.0 prescribed credit by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1.0 credit(s) toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Physicians should only claim the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses: The MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Northeast Multistate Division Education Unit, an accredited approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Social Workers: MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0242.
