Purpose: The goal of this webinar is to expand upon best practices in opioid therapy for pain in those with serious illness, with a focus on breakthrough pain, opioid titration, and opioid rotation.

Objectives:

  1. Implement best practices in the initiation of opioid therapy in patients with chronic pain related to serious illness
  2. Manage breakthrough pain using opioid ‘rescue doses’
  3. Implement best practices in opioid titration and rotation

Target Audience: Social workers and healthcare coaches,nurse practitioners, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, and registered nurses with a specialty in palliative care/hospice

Criteria for Successful Completion:

  1. Attendance at entire session
  2. Submission of completed evaluation form
  3. Successful completion of a posttest (70% for nurses; 80% for social workers)

Continuing Education Credits: 1.0

Continuing Education Accreditation:

Nurses: MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Northeast Multistate Division Education Unit, an accredited approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Social Workers: MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0242.

 

Fees:
Individual: $10 (includes CE certificate)

Release Date: June 10, 2019

Expiration Date: November 1, 2024 (for nurses); January 31, 2025 (for NYS Social Workers)
