Purpose: This webinar will present a number of cases where goals of care conversations were key to the management of patients with acute stroke and intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). We will explain which factors in the cases led to the decision to step back and discuss goals of care and general recommendations for managing these difficult cases.
Objectives:
- Explain which stroke/ICH syndromes have poor prognoses
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of catastrophic stroke and ICH
- Discuss strategies to communicate about the patient's injury and expected prognosis
- Implement strategies to engage in open discussion about the patient's end-of-life wishes
