Speaker Name and Title:
Russell K. Portenoy, MD
Executive Director, MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care;
Chief Medical Officer, MJHS Hospice & Palliative Care

Purpose: The purpose of this webinar is to assist the medical professional in identifying common tumor-related cancer pain syndromes in order to clarify extent of illness and appropriate management strategies.

Objectives

  1. Define the prevalence and clinical presentation of diverse types of tumor-related cancer pain syndromes.
  2. Discuss the management of cancer pain by addressing its causes.
  3. Identify and manage serious complications, such as epidural spinal cord compression.

Why Do I Need to Know This?
Chronic cancer pain persists for one month or more beyond the usual course of an acute illness or injury. It is associated with a pattern of recurrence intervals over months or years. It is important for medical professionals to be able to identify common tumor-related cancer pain syndromes to ensure better patient care, particularly with regard to serious complications that may occur.

    1. Attendance at entire session (mandatory for nurses and social workers)
    2. Submission of completed evaluation form (mandatory to receive CE/CME credit for MDs, nurses, social workers)
