Purpose: This webinar will discuss the clinical challenges associated with the treatment of thrombosis in patients with advanced illness and review the risk of bleeding in the patient with chronic serious illness requiring anticoagulant therapy.
- Discuss the current guidelines regarding management strategies for thrombosis and the clinical challenges in application of these guidelines in patients with advanced illness
- Describe and review the risks, benefits, and burdens of the current armamentarium of anticoagulants — including the addition of newer therapies in recent years as it relates to the chronically ill patient
- Recognize the importance of continuous ongoing assessment of thrombosis and bleeding risk as goals of care evolve throughout an illness’s disease trajectory
Target Audience: primary care providers, nurse practitioners, palliative care specialists, pain specialists, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses with a specialty in palliative care/hospice, pharmacists, allied health professionals, fellows, residents, and medical students
Criteria for Successful Completion:
- Attendance at entire session
- Submission of completed evaluation form
- Successful completion of a posttest (70% for physicians, non-physicians, and nurses; 80% for social workers)
