Purpose: Acquire the knowledge and skills required of a specialist-level palliative care clinician in evaluating and managing a patient in impending death.

Objectives:  

  1. Identify and manage the signs and symptoms associated with impending death, using nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic options
  2. Recognize and address the common family concerns preceding death
  3. Describe how to pronounce a patient’s death and provide postmortem care

Physicians: This live online webinar, Assessment and Management of Impending Death, with a beginning date of February 22, 2024, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 1.0 prescribed credit by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1.0 credit(s) toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award.
Physicians should only claim the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses: The MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Northeast Multistate Division Education Unit, an accredited approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Social Workers: MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0242.

Case Managers: This program has been pre-approved by The Commission for Case Manager Certification to provide continuing education credit to CCM® board certified case managers. The course is approved for 1.0 CE contact hour.
